The Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU) is a public higher education institution, founded on 12th September 1947. Its main role is tertiary education in the field of the arts (music, theatre, dance, multimedia) in its acredited study programmes.  At the same time it actively pursues academic research, publications activities and develops international partnerships. Students and teachers are using different programmes and opportunities for improving their skills at partner foreign institutions. With Erasmus+ JAMU has a contract with 60 institutions from 23 countries.

JAMU has at present more than 700 students at its two faculties (the Faculty of Music and the Theatre Faculty). JAMU with its educational as well arts activities has become part of history of Brno and has contributed to the cultural scene with a number of theatre perfomances and concerts, regular international festivals, competitions, conferences and courses in the South Moravian Region and beyond the region.
